Description

Upon departure, we will take Provincial Route 11 towards the Magallanes Peninsula. Once in the port "Bajo de las Sombras", we will embark to cross the Rico Lake, and after approximately 20 minutes of navigation, we will arrive at the opposite shore in front of the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon disembarking, you will be met by the mountain guides, who will take you to a shelter with sanitary facilities. From there, you will start a short hike along the lake shore (1Km approx), which includes a talk about glaciology in general and the Perito Moreno Glacier in particular. Upon reaching the edge of the glacier, the guides will form subgroups of a maximum of 20 people each, and will put on crampons and helmets. Once on the ice, they will receive a brief safety briefing and begin the hike. Always with the help of mountain guides, you will enjoy this natural ice paradise. The hike is of medium difficulty and has many ascents and descents; the journey over the glacier lasts about an hour and a half and in the course of it you will be able to appreciate a variety of typical formations of a glacier such as crevasses, sinkholes, seracs, lagoons, etc. At the end of the walk on the ice, you will return to the refuge by a footbridge that crosses the lush Andean Patagonian forest. Shortly after, you will embark to return to the starting port. After a transfer by land to the footbridges (7Km approx), we will be able to observe the walls of the glacier from its main balcony or its different self-guided trails. Return to El Calafate.
