Description
A midday excursion in 4x4 vehicles along the shores of Lake Argentino, ideal for the day of arrival or departure to El Calafate. The activity offers an anthropological and historical approach to the passage of man in these lands, rediscovering the experiences of the first expeditions that ventured into the unknown by the Santa Cruz River and Lake Argentino. The excursion focuses on the history of the expedition's first contacts with the Tehuelches (native Indians of the area), crossing cliffs and marveling at views of Lake Argentino and the Andes Mountains. After being picked up at your hotel in El Calafate, the first stop is on the shores of the lake where the native flora and fauna will be interpreted and an explanation will be given on glaciology and geology. The second stop will be at the cliffs of Punta Bonita, in front of the lake from where you will have magnificent views of Lake Argentino and the Andes Mountains. Finally, at the third stop, you will visit the archaeological area (Walichu Caves). Here you will be able to appreciate rock art through paintings in the caves on the shores of the lake, where thousands of years ago the Tehuelche culture left their marks on the rock and that today we can interpret. It is there, inside one of the caves in the area, where we will have lunch or dinner enjoying a unique experience in a totally natural environment that will transport us to those remote years of the first explorers. After the tour and lunch, you will return to El Calafate.
