Description

MORNING OR AFTERNOON FIELD TRIP: (Afternoon only valid for groups of more than 10 people) Departure from El Calafate to take the gravel road Nº15, also known as "Camino de las Estancias". During the trip it is common to come across condors, foxes and hares, with Cerro Frias as a protagonist. After crossing the Rico River, the steppe landscape changes abruptly, becoming a mountain range landscape. Arrival at the ranch after traveling along the shores of Lake Roca and entering Los Glaciares National Park. The anfitrion guide will welcome you to the Estancia and accompany you to the Quincho, where you will be invited with a hot drink (tea, coffee or mate) accompanied by homemade pastries. We will then tour the facilities of the estancia and learn a little of its history. Those who have opted for a horseback ride will be able to explore the surroundings accompanied by a local guide (optional). The rest of the group will take a walk with a view of the South Arm of the Lake. Then we will visit the Estancia's Historical Museum and the shearing shed where the process will be shown using a mechanical handle with a cutting comb. A demonstration of riders and in the morning you can participate in the milking and herding of sheep. Returning to the Quincho where a lamb is being roasted on a stick, we will emphasize the history of the place and recall anecdotes and stories of the first settlers. Crossing through the orchard where most of the vegetables consumed in the estancia come from, we will arrive at the Quincho where the Asador will have the roast ready for the guests to enjoy a delicious Patagonian lamb while they enjoy the breathtaking view of the Cordillera. In the meantime, life at the estancia continues and it is common to see the gauchos on horseback herding cattle and/or sheep and getting lost in the horizon. Back in El Calafate, having experienced the life of a typical Patagonian estancia will give us a new perspective, finding more meaning in the immense Patagonian landscapes characterized by the infinite and the remote.
