Description
Bahía Bustamante is located at the northernmost point of the Golfo San Jorge arc, on the shores of Bahía Bustamante. It is south of the town of Camarones and between the cities of Comodoro Rivadavia (180 km) and Trelew (250 km).
It is the only town in Argentina dedicated to seaweed harvesting and mussel farming. It is the perfect complement to Península Valdés. Unlike other destinations, here the fauna is always surrounding the Lodge, without the need to travel long distances to spot animals and birds in large quantities. And above all, this remote and exclusive Patagonian coastal town offers a different place, full of tranquility and security.
Staying at Bahía Bustamante Lodge also allows you to experience a journey through the past and discover the life of pioneers in this remote corner of Patagonia. Here, silence is only interrupted by gusts of wind, the songs of hundreds of birds, and the breaking waves on the shore.
We highlight that at Bahía Bustamante Lodge we preserve the essence of the place and maintain a balance with nature. The houses of the first settlers were renovated to accommodate guests, preserving their austerity and simplicity, keeping alive the spirit of those who arrived here over 60 years ago. At Bahía Bustamante Lodge, luxury means access to the vastness of its nature, pure and powerful, the true identity of its history and its inhabitants.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Lodge Principal: The old Proveeduría now houses the common areas of the Lodge, maintaining a typical Patagonian atmosphere: Restaurant: Regional cuisine based on locally produced seaweed, lamb, fish, and fruits from the garden. Bar & Living: Ideal for relaxing while enjoying the incredible sea view through enormous windows. We have a library with a variety of books, bird guides, and magazines. Here the "Penguin Bar" also works, ideal for enjoying a Happy Hour before dinner. Historical Room: A collection of old photos and objects that serve as an introduction to the history of the property and the area. The Club: a game room with Pool, ping-pong, croquet, and board games.
4 Superior Sea Houses - 2 Standard Sea Houses: Both overlooking the sea, each House has 2 rooms, 1 bathroom, living room, mini bar, and terrace facing the sea. Maximum capacity: 4 people. The only difference between Standard and Superior is that Superior includes amenities: coffee machine, exclusive wine cellar, and Bluetooth speaker.

NEARBY AIRPORTS: - Comodoro Rivadavia (CRD) - 180 km / 110 miles (2 hours by car) - Trelew (REL) - 250 km / 155 miles (3 hours by car) - Bahía Bustamante is located 300 km south of Península Valdés. (3.30 hours by car)
ACTIVITIES:
- Petrified Forest: A journey to the past, 60 million years ago. Visiting the Petrified Forest involves a combination of 4×4 and trekking to explore it entirely. It is located 30 km from the Lodge, within the same property. - Cabo Aristizabal: We make a wonderful journey in a 4×4 vehicle to reach the Cape, a rocky point with impressive landscapes, views of open sea and hidden beaches. On the way, we will cross paths with steppe inhabitants: guanacos, foxes, vizcachas, maras, piches, and a variety of birds. - Piedra Canyon: Fascinating trekking through an immense canyon, following the course of a river (now dry) until reaching the ocean. We walk between walls over 15 meters high, formed in the Jurassic Period, during the Mesozoic Era. Natural pools invite you to refresh and take photos. - Day Trip: We produce sustainable wool. During the tour of the facilities, corrals, pens, and barns, we can learn about the wool and meat production process and, depending on the season, participate in different rural tasks. - Penguin Island: Just 15 minutes from the Lodge, this island is home to a colony of Magellanic Penguins. With low tide, the island connects to the continent and we cross walking to enjoy the privilege of being surrounded by hundreds of penguins, their chicks, and their nests. - The Peninsula: Here the white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and enormous reddish rock formations contrast with the intense blue of the sea. Ideal for walking, biking, or in our 4×4 vehicles to reach not only its incredible beaches but also geological and archaeological sites of importance. - Navigation: We navigate the calm waters of Caleta Malaspina to approach the islands of the Vernacci archipelago, home to 4000 marine wolves (during breeding season), 100,000 Magellanic Penguins, and colonies of marine birds, characterized by their variety of species and number of individuals. - Historical Tour: A walk around the Lodge to learn about its history, founder, life here, barns with different algae species, their use and collection. - Self-guided Trails
OTHER EXPERIENCES (not included in the program): Private horseback riding or navigation.
FAUNA: The sea lion rookeries (Otaria flavescens) on the islands, approximately 3500 individuals, are a key component of this species' population in the center of Patagonia, accounting for no less than 20% of the total animals that settle and reproduce in Golfo San Jorge. The Magellanic Penguin colony (Spheniscus magellanicus), numbering approximately 60,000 individuals, is the most abundant and constitutes one of the main tourist attractions in Chubut Province.
You will also find colonies of Cormorants, Quetzals, Herons, Gulls, Terns, Petrels, Skuas, among other species. The richness of the area also attracts the presence of Orcas, Fin Whales, and Dolphins. And during their migration to or from Península Valdés, we are visited by some examples of Southern Right Whale and Elephants. As you explore this region, you will be surprised by the unique native animals that inhabit the Patagonian steppe. Maras, vizcachas, and guanacos often cross the road, and sometimes a curious furry or a gray fox peeks from behind the branches of some thorny bush. Sunset is the perfect time to see a variety of birds, martins, and even some gray foxes. The coastal sector of Bahía Bustamante and Caleta Malaspina is one of the most relevant for marine birds in Patagonia. There are around 21 breeding colonies composed of between 1 and 7 species of marine birds.
