Description
We leave early in the morning heading north to visit the Península Valdés Natural Protected Area. After traveling 45km, we will arrive at the El Desempeño checkpoint, where after paying the entrance fee we will continue our trip. First we will visit the interpretation center, Istmo Ameghino, located at the entrance of the reserve. There, we will have the possibility of seeing both gulfs at the same time and from its viewpoint, we will have a first notion of the geographical characteristics of the peninsula with its coastal features and the Isla de los Pájaros. Continuing our trip, 100 kms. from Puerto Madryn, we find the tourist village of Puerto Pirámide. Between the months of June to December you can embark to watch the Southern Right Whale (navigation NOT included and optional); and between the months of January and March, a navigation is offered to watch sea lions, various birds and occasionally dusky dolphins (navigation NOT included and optional). Continuing the visit, we will arrive at the Punta Pirámides sea lion breeding colony, where we will observe their habitat and enjoy the panoramic views from the viewpoints of the place. Then, depending on the time of the year, we will visit Caleta Valdés or Punta Norte. In Caleta Valdés, we will see an elephant and sea lion colony called Punta Cantor, located at the eastern end of the peninsula. It has a rest stop, restrooms and trails to the coast. Standing at this point in front of the sea, we will experience sensations of grandeur and beauty that represent the open ocean, its environment and where you can appreciate the topography of the cove. If you visit Punta Norte, you will see a sea lion colony located at the northeast end. This place is known for its particularly rugged coastline and for the possibility of seeing prowling or attacks by killer whales, which generally "patrol" the area in search of new prey. From either of these two points, we will start our return trip and throughout the journey we will have a good chance of observing terrestrial wildlife such as guanacos, choiques, foxes, maras, piches and skunks in their natural habitat. Finally, in the afternoon, we will arrive at the hotel after having traveled more than 400 kms, (half gravel road and half asphalt), having had an intense and pleasant day. OPTIONAL - NOT INCLUDED: Between January and March - Navigation of sea lions, birds and dolphins.
