Description
Leaving Puerto Madryn towards the south and bordering the coast, you will pass by different beaches. The first one is Playa Kaiser, which leads to a large sand dune where sandboarding is practiced. After a few kilometers along the coast, you arrive at Playa Paraná where you can see the upper part of the sunken ship Folias. It is an ideal place for snorkeling or diving. After having traveled 19 Kms. we will arrive at the Fauna Reserve of Punta Loma. From a viewpoint, on a cliff of medium height, you will be able to observe the only sea lion colony in the area that remains all year round. In this place we will find the sea lion of a hair, divided in harems, resting on a small margin of pebble beach when the tide is low. On the way back, we will pass by the Monument to the Tehuelche Indian, a historical site and panoramic point with a unique view of the whole city. We will also reach the area of Punta Cuevas: site where there are still ruins of the first Welsh settlement in the area. These caves, recognized as a historical site, date from 1865 and are considered the first dwellings in Puerto Madryn and one of the oldest in Patagonia. There is also the homonymous exhibition center, where objects of the settlers are exhibited and you can learn about the history of the two cultures: Indigenous - Welsh. We continue with a coastal walk through the residential area of our city until we reach the Monument to the Welsh Deed built on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of our city.
