El Pedral Penguin Colony
Image Gallery
Description
We leave Puerto Madryn and travel about 70 km of Patagonian steppe until we reach the southern end of the mouth of Golfo Nuevo, where the Punta Ninfas lighthouse is located, a valuable reference point for sailors entering the gulf. On the beaches surrounding Punta Ninfas and from the cliff we will be able to see elephant seals (more elephant seals from September to December). After contemplating this marvelous landscape we continue on our way to El Pedral, an authentic Patagonian ranch house built at the beginning of the 20th century. The materials and furniture were brought from Europe by ship and disembarked on the shores of the estancia itself. The house was inaugurated in 1923 and still preserves the aesthetics and style of those times. We continue on our way to the Magellanic penguin colony established on the shores of El Pedral. A guided tour along the path to the coast among their nests allows us to get to know these curious animals better. At the end of the visit to the penguin colony, we will return to the estancia to enjoy lunch in the barbecue area, the menu is lamb roast with a variety of salads, dessert and coffee. Drinks and house wine are included. After lunch, you can enjoy and walk around the property until you return to Puerto Madryn. Recommendation: in summer we suggest you bring a hat, sunglasses and a bottle of water for the tour to the penguin colony.
