Description

We leave early in the morning to head south to Punta Tombo Natural Area, the largest continental penguin colony in Latin America, located almost 200km from the city. Magellanic penguins arrive annually on these shores to nest, mate, have their young and moult, before heading back to the northeast of South America and cyclically returning each year. The Magellanic Penguin Interpretation Center is a major undertaking of tourist and scientific scope. At the tourist level, it offers a complete structure of services and a recreational and informative approach to the largest continental reserve of Magellanic penguins in the world, and at the scientific level, it provides information on the importance of ecosystem balance and care for the environment. In the reserve we will walk along a 1500 mts. path, among penguins, where, according to the season, we can observe them digging their caves, fighting for territory, moving from here to there looking for their nests or running after their chicks! At the same time, we will hear the continuous murmur of squawking - a vocalization that adult penguins use to ward off strangers and attract their mates. In the area we will also be able to spot guanacos, piches, maras and rheas. After lunch (optional - not included), we will head towards the region called Valle Inferior (Lower Valley), which is 110 km away and is home to the city of Gaiman, among others. Upon arrival, we will tour the city with its most emblematic points of the Welsh Culture, the Railway Tunnel and the Regional Historical Museum. We will also have time to taste the traditional "Welsh Tea" (optional - not included). On the way back, we will stop in the city of Trelew to visit the "Museo Paleontológico Egidio Refugio" (MEF) (optional - not included), which exhibits dinosaur skeletons of different species found in the region and murals painted by stage designers of the Teatro Colón that set the pieces in their time. Finally we will return to Puerto Madryn arriving approximately at 18:00hs.
