Description
This excursion has two versions Outbound sailing and return by land or vice versa, schedules and version to be confirmed by the provider. We set sail from the local tourist pier along the wide Ushuaia Bay until we reach the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico. There we sail around the Isla de los Pájaros (Birds Island) where we will appreciate the Fuegian avifauna observing Skuas, Black-browed Albatrosses, Steamer Ducks, Geese, Kelp Gulls and Grey Gulls; and the Isla de los Lobos (Sea Lions Island) where we will be able to observe sea lions of one and two hairs. Both islands belong to the Bridges Archipelago. Arriving at Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse (The Illuminators), we will be able to appreciate the colonies of Imperial Cormorants and Rock Cormorants; and also hear the story of the sinking of the SS Monte Cervantes in 1930. Continuing on, we will sail eastwards enjoying the wonderful landscapes of the channel and the surrounding mountains, where we will see Puerto Almanza on the Argentinean coast and Puerto Williams Naval Base on the Chilean coast, and then we will skirt Matillo Island which we will visit later to make a descent and walk among the penguins. Upon arrival at Estancia Harberton we will disembark to divide the group, some will go to see the Museum and the facilities of the Estancia, while others will have access to a Zodiac. With it we will sail to the beaches of Martillo Island to go down and take a walk among the penguin colonies. We will observe Magellanic Penguins and Papuas. We return sailing to the Estancia for the group that visited the Museum to navigate and visit Martillo Island, then we will visit the Museum and the facilities of the Estancia. Later, after meeting again, we will return to Ushuaia in a land vehicle that will leave us where we left in the morning, at the tourist pier.
